That’s All Right, I’ll Watch it Anyway

Speaking of that night at Youpers, remember how suddenly Elvis was before us, his usual Heartthrob McVainerson pompadour obscured by that lame hat, and we started running circles around him, verbally I mean, barking out the chorus of that Feelies song, demanding he guess guess GUESS which song it was? He couldn’t guess. Dude’s brain was scrambled. I think even more than usual.

And then, later on, that guy you were talking to told the Bartender-Who-Oaks not to give us any more drinks (the nerve!), and the Bartender-Who-Oaks wouldn’t hear of it, and said, affectionately, that he wanted to keep us around because, “They’re better than TV!”

Later on it struck me that that—two TV metaphors in one night—was one of those Weird, Lovely Coincidences that ultimately Mean Nothing.

Like, you know, Everything.

Wait, it’s not “okes”? Talk about changing Everything.

I know, it’s counterintuitive. Just ask the jocks from my high school. It’s definitely, definitely OAKS.

Speaking of a different night Youpers, and lovely coincidences that meant nothing, and oakers: Remember that guy from Boulder in head-to-toe fleece?

Also: definitely “oak.” Like the tree. Next lesson: “going irv.”
