A whale of a way to die.
Yesterday at acupuncture, Dr. Chen was super-excited to tell me about that really old whale caught off the coast of Alaska. Apparently the poor beast had a 120-year-old weapon fragment embedded in his blubber.
Poor guy was just trying to live.
Anyway, I expected Dr. Chen would turn it into a life lesson, you know, Ancient Chinese Wisdom-style. Like, Bad things might happen to you, but you will still live another 120 years! Or, You might get hit with a harpoon, but you won’t die until you get hit with another harpoon 120 years later! Something like that.
It turned out it just reminded him of Moby Dick, and since he imagines me to be a “writer,” he thought I’d be interested.
I didn’t have the heart to tell him I’ve never read Moby Dick.
Anyway, crazy story.

Or maybe it was supposed to be an opener for him to tell you he was sorry, but it turns out there’s a needle he can’t get out of your leg.
